Product Setup Guide

All GhostBed mattresses are compressed and vacuum-packed, and are delivered by FedEx. This means that your mattress will arrive in a much smaller box than you’re probably expecting. Don’t be alarmed! Our cutting-edge technology allows us to safely compress the bed for shipping.

As soon as you unpack your mattress, it will expand to its normal size. And watch it open—you’ll like what you see!

Setting up your vacuum-packed GhostBed mattress is easy! Keep in mind that the mattress may be heavy, so use care when moving and opening it. Enlist a helper, if needed!

Here are the steps to take:

• Carefully pull the mattress out of the box and place it on top of your foundation or base.
• Carefully cut the outer layer of plastic and discard.
• Slowly and carefully cut the bag open, making sure not to accidentally cut the foam. 
• Remove all plastic wrap.
• Watch as the mattress instantly expands, right before your eyes!

Note: Depending on the temperature in the room and other factors, it may take up to 24-48 hours to fully expand. The room temperature can also affect the overall feel of the mattress; warm weather can make it feel softer, while cooler temps make it a bit firmer. 

Sometimes—many people sleep better right away, but it’s also normal for your body to need a little time to adjust to a new mattress. If you’re coming from an older bed, the feel may be different at first, and some customers say it takes a few nights to get used to.

After that short adjustment period, most report sleeping more comfortably, staying asleep longer, and waking up feeling more rested. This adjustment period is common with any new mattress, and it often leads to better overall sleep once your body adapts. That’s why every GhostBed mattress includes a 101-Night Sleep Trial, so you have time to experience the difference for yourself!

Great news! Your GhostBed mattress never needs to be flipped, since the memory foam comfort layers are on the top side. To increase the longevity of the mattress, we recommend rotating the mattress 180 degrees or head-to-toe every 3 months.

All the components are sewn securely into the mattress, except for the control boxes and the air tube connector. There are just a few steps you’ll need to do after you’ve unboxed everything.

While your mattress is decompressing, here are the steps you’ll take:

1. Connect the air tubes in the mattress to the control box. 
2. Plug the control box into an outlet.
3. Repeat with the other air tubes and control box.
4. Press the power button on each remote.

That’s it! You can tuck the control boxes under your bed so they’re out of the way. Once your mattress has fully decompressed, it’s time to try out the massage settings!

Note: Twin XL mattresses have one massage unit inside, so you’ll have one control box and hose.

If your remote is fully charged and still not working, it may need to be re-paired to your control box. Press the “Home” button. Scroll down and select “Settings” and then select “Bluetooth.” Select the network code that is marked on the bottom of your control box.

If you’re trying to deflate the air cells, make sure the remote is unplugged from the control box. It will not deflate if it’s plugged in.

Your mattress will need to stay head-up to keep the massage unit connected, so there is no need to rotate it. 

Your adjustable power base will arrive at your door pre-assembled with just a few additional steps required. Simply unbox the folded frame on the floor upside down, slide the locking frame bolts to keep the mechanism in place and then attach the legs and retainer bar. That’s it! If you prefer to adjust the height of the legs, simply twist apart. The legs can be attached to the base using 1, 2 or all 3 parts (12” height total). Watch the setup video here.

In most cases it’s as easy as checking to see if your Child Lock is on accidentally. If that’s not the issue, you may need to re-sync the remote.

Assembling the GhostBed All-in-One Foundation™ takes about 15 minutes and no special tools are required. Simply snap the frame ends together, pop the slats into place, pull the cover on and—voilà—you’ve got a sturdy, solid base for your mattress.

Once you open your GhostBed mattress from its sealed, vacuum-compressed packaging, it will begin expanding right away. Most mattresses fully expand within a few hours to a full day, though in colder conditions it may take up to 5 days to fully decompress as the materials adjust to your room’s temperature. You can sleep on it the same night.

While your mattress may continue to settle slightly over the first day or two, it is ready to use almost immediately.
